NY Times/Siena Poll

This will make the Quinn people a little less anxious:

The poll found that among Democratic voters, Christine C. Quinn, the City Council speaker, is leading the field, with support from 27 percent, followed by Anthony D. Weiner, a former congressman, who was supported by 18 percent. Bill de Blasio, the public advocate, and William C. Thompson Jr., a former comptroller, were each backed by 11 percent of Democratic voters, while John C. Liu, the current comptroller, had support from 7 percent.

The Times note the race is still fluid - 22% of Dems are undecided, only 3 in 10 say they will be voting for the candidate they currently prefer.

And Quinn's support in this poll is not as strong as Weiner's:

Mr. Weiner’s backers are ardent: 41 percent said they were “absolutely certain” they would vote for him, in contrast to 21 percent of Ms. Quinn’s backers who said they were certain they would vote for her. He is running about even with Ms. Quinn among Brooklyn residents, parents, union households, and voters 65 and older.

Again, this is all coming before ad season gets under way, so take these polls with a grain of salt.

But notice that the number"11%" comes up an awful lot for both Thompson and de Blasio and it's nowhere near enough to get into the runoff.

  1. There is nothing in these numbers that teachers can view and say that it is positive. This is looking more and more like the summer of 2001. The big difference is we hope there won't be a 9/11 type incident to propel another Republican into office.

All signs are pointing towards a "conservacrat" as mayor. A Bloomberg type 4th term looks likely unless there is a big change coming quickly.

Quinn and Weiner have the money to ride this thing out so advertising won't change much. DeBlasio, Liu and Thompson will split the real Democrat vote. I hope these polls are wrong but fear they are right.

    1. You could be right.

      Maybe Mikey Mulgrew's endorsement doesn't mean @#$%?

  2. Mulgrew begging for money for Thompson isn't adding up to much either. This is very scary. I can see the UFT endorsing Quinn in round two.

    1. If it's between Quinn and Weiner, I can see them doing that as well.

  3. Weiner has Hillary Clinton people thanks to his wife. Don't forget that.

    1. The Clintons didn't want Weiner to run because his scandal reminds people of Bill's scandal. I know that they're supposed to be okay with him running now, but it remains to be seen if they open up the spigots from their donors. I see that Weiner had a good last quarter. We'll see if that continues.
