Daily News: Weingarten Behind The Thompson/UFT Endorsement

From the Daily News politics blog:

Sources in the labor movement told the Daily News that former UFT President Randi Weingarten, now head of the UFT’s national parent, the American Federation of Teachers, was a deciding factor in the union’s selection.

Weingarten had personally endorsed Thompson and pressed Mulgrew, her hand-picked successor at the UFT, to support Thompson as well, the sources said.

Not a surprise.

Weingarten still runs this union.

She makes all the big calls, from teacher evaluations to contract negotiations to sell-outs on the Common Core to mayoral endorsements.

Nothing has changed since she left.

We're getting the same ed deform collaborationist sell-outs we got when she was officially running this union local.

The Thompson endorsement is just the latest ed deform collaborationist sell-out.

Nauseating. Not shocking at all, but nauseating.

  2. I've been running a personal crusade to educate radio host Nicole Sandler who actually responded to my tweet when she had Weinggarten on her show. Sadly Nicole defended Weingarten and insisted she is NOT a sell out. Funny how people in media know more about our union's machinations than we do huh ? She is pretty good on seeing through Obama though and knows about test prep and ed reform in Florida so I am hoping she will drop the corporate/democrat defense of people like Weingarten and embrace the larger truth we all inhabit in the edusphere. I tweeted her your post today. Great work here I always read you first.

    1. Thanks for the kind words, Sean. I just write it as I see it. It's the hypocrisy and the jive and the bullshit of these people that bothers me the most.

  3. Again showing no leadership courage or divergency, the UFT decides to play nice with the reformers and endorse Bill "Meryl Tisch" Thompson for mayor.
