I worked in the private sector for a long time before switching to teaching. The biggest difference here is that in the private sector, the person evaluating you knows your job responsibilities. Also in the private sector, a Department Head, with absolutely no experience in a job, would not be able to force a change on a company without the next level of management explaining why it would not work, and would possibly hurt the company. There are a lot of failed companies who no longer exist because of management who decided to go into businesses without the required experience, or without properly researching a new direction for a company. Would you allow Cuomo, with absolutely NO experience in your profession, to walk in and tell your companies management to make changes he really knows nothing about? And then evaluate you, without understanding your job, and tell you you're ineffective? That is precisely what Cuomo is doing with education.
Perhaps Newsday can bring Cuomo in to spruce up the work they do in the human resources department?
Hell, who are we kidding - even charter schools don't have to use the Cuomo evaluation system.
It really does make sense how having someone come and evaluate a teacher without understanding the job can make for a bad representative. I personally think that there are a lot of things that can end up causing different problems when it comes to evaluations like this. That being said, they definitely are needed to ensure that the students are getting the best education that they can get.
