On the back it says, "Forms Of Certificate: Permanent-Valid for the life of the holder unless annulled for cause". This is EXACTLY why so many of us with permanent certificates are so angry. It say for life. NYS in effect has made a promise to us and lied to us right to our faces. Our certificates are no longer "for life". They are for five years. That breaks down to 35 hrs per school year. For a 7 hr work day, that's 5 days I have to spend either at a BOCES workshop or some other type of training. With the continual curriculum changes and everything, you're probably already hitting that 20 hr requirement now without thinking about it, so it's most likely not a huge change in reality.
