Christie Tells Students: Blame Teachers For School Budget Cuts

How dare teachers not work longer for less money!

How dare they not allow him to cut their pensions!

That's what Governor Christie told students in Trenton:

Gov. Chris Christie took his fight with the state’s largest teachers union directly to the kids today, telling a room full of Trenton students their schools were short on supplies because of greedy teachers union officials — not state aid cuts.

"There’s a lot of really great teachers in the state," said Christie. "But their union cares more about how much they get paid than they care about how well you learn."

...

"Too much of that money is not getting to all of you to get the best teachers, to get the materials and the technology that’s necessary to get you the best education," he said. "The money is going to places it shouldn’t go to. At times like this, nobody can be greedy. Everyone has to be willing to share with each other."

The money sure is going to places it shouldn't go to - like companies with no bid contracts for standardized test development and companies with no bid contracts to create data systems to track scores from those tests so that schools and teachers can be punished with the results.

Governor Christie has some screwed up priorities.

He has never met a tax cut for a hedge fund manager or millionaire he wasn't in favor of.

But when it comes to providing money for schools, funding the pension obligations New Jersey has for state workers, or building infrastructure or transit systems - those he's not in favor of.

And he sure is a hypocrite - he's the moron who lost $400 million in federal school funds because he couldn't bear to compromise with the teachers union and he is also the guy who complained that teachers were talking politics by blaming him for the budget cuts.

So instead he went to students and blamed teachers for the cuts.

I'll say it again: not enough bad stuff can happen to this man.

  1. Their union is SUPPOSED to care more about the teachers' salaries than about how much the kids learn. The latter is what the teachers get paid for. The teachers pay dues to their teachers' union so the union can do something about their salaries. Why is Christie so delusional?

  2. What is even more delusional, Ms. Havisham, is that the Republican establishment and even some in the media are promoting Christie for national office in 2012.
