Horrific Building Fire In China

That's a photo of a skyscraper fire in Shanghai that killed at least 42 people and injured 90. 156 families live in the building and many of them are still unaccounted for.

The skyscraper was named the Teachers Apartments and was home to many retired teachers.

The cause of the fire is still unknown, but the building had been undergoing renovation and the scaffolding outside reportedly caught fire before the building did.

One resident said she had complained about construction workers smoking cigarettes while they worked on the building.

More video here.

Just a terrible, terrible tragedy and one that should give all of us who live or work in skyscrapers pause to remind ourselves of safety precautions and procedures.

  2. Ah, those pictures do look like the pictures of the WTC towers on fire, do they not?

I am going to guess that the Shanghai tower did not collapse because there was no jet fuel.

But I dunno...I'm just an English teacher. Perhaps you should ask a science teacher!
