NYCDOE: Klein's Gone, But The School Closings Go On

56 schools on the docket to be closed.

Klein's gone, but the policies live on.

The "creative destruction" of the NYC school system continues.

When you have a president, a governor and mayor all intent on the destruction of public education...

When you have magazine publishers with no education experience put in charge of the largest school system...

When you have the former head of the Hunter College education department - one of the most notorious, horribly run departments in any college, just ask anyone who's graduated from Hunter with an ed degree - put in charge of the state ed department...

...you get lots of "creative destruction."

And nothing makes the corporate suits running things happier than keeping the serfs under them reacting to the latest outrage, the latest bombshell, the latest change of direction.

And unlike in other countries where people take the streets over these outrages (see here for the latest example of that), here in America and here in NYC, we mostly suffer in silence.

We say, oh well - what can you do?

$104 metro card while Bloomberg spends billions to extend the 7 train 8 blocks in order to open up a new neighborhood to transit for his real estate buddies?

Oh, well - what can you do...

GOP and Dem administrations hand out trillions in bailouts to insolvent banks and the bankers therein party like it's 1928, handing themselves millions in bonuses?

Oh, well - what can you do...

Democratic administration recommends the destruction of Social Security so that they can lower corporate tax rates to 26%?

Oh, well - what can you do...

And so the creative destruction - in and out of the school system - continues unabated...

What will the next outrage be?
