Tonight Could Have Been Different

You know, if Dems had focused on a jobs bills, had constructed the stimulus bill so that many of the projects would have put people to work rebuilding roads, bridges, tunnels, rail and other infrastructure, and had held the hedge fund criminals and banksters accountable for the 2007-2008 near economic collapse, tonight could have been a different story.

Yes, Dems would have lost a few seats in the Senate and probably about 20 in the House.

But that's what happens in midterm elections - the president's party loses seats.

But they still would have had majorities and they would have had the confidence of the American people.

Instead Obama governed by reaching out to the wingers for "compromise" and sticking it to his core base - people of color, union members, liberals.

I have to tell you, whenever Obama comes up in my classes, there are a good number of students (all of whom are black or Hispanic) who speak about him with anger and disdain.

I have noticed this group get bigger over the last year.

These students feel betrayed by Obama - they say he has done NOTHING for them and EVERYTHING for rich people.

I know the feeling.

And that, my friends, is why Dems are losing tonight too.

They are now perceived as the people who support the status quo of hedge fund criminals, banksters and other people who rig the system and steal money for a living.

And guess what - many Dems are just like that.

It's a shame that one who isn't - Russ Feingold - might go down tonight too.

But can anybody be sorry that Blanche Lincoln lost tonight?

Or Jack Conway?

Or if Bennet goes down in CO?

These are corporate whore Dems through and through, just as this president is a corporate whore Dem through and through.

Sure Palin calls him a socialist, but she's an idiot.

That elitist problem he had back during the '08 primaries continues to dog him because he IS an elitist.

He despises working people.

He despises union members.

He condescends to us.

He thinks he's smarter than we are.

He thinks he knows better than we do what is good for us.

Well, tonight that stance is backfiring.

People are taking it out on the Dems tonight.

If he continues to lead as he has done so far, they will take it out on him come 2012 too.
