Bloomberg To City Council: Screw You

The Mayor of Money wants no input on governing:

City Council has lots of ideas for fixing blizzard blunders - but Mayor Bloomberg wants none of them.

Hizzoner opposes all 16 bills the Council introduced after holding an unprecedented eight hearings following the devastating Dec. 26, 2010, blizzard.

Among the Council bills is a measure to suspend meter collections whenever there's enough snow to suspend alternate side parking.

Other proposals would require the city to shovel bus shelters and pedestrian crossings, force the administration to call a snow emergency when amid whiteout conditions and release more details about which streets get plowed first.

During a hearing on the measures Wednesday, Bloomberg operations director Liz Weinstein ticked off a long list of reasons why each bill wasn't necessary.

Some measures would duplicate existing laws. Others would expose the city to lawsuits, cost too much money or needlessly tie the city's hands as it tries to respond to emergencies.

The mayor is already implementing a 15-point plan that he says is sufficient to avoid the perilous mistakes that left streets unplowed for days and ambulances stranded in snow banks.

But as Weinstein testified against each of the 16 bills, Council members looked incredulous.

"You don't like any of them?" asked Councilwoman Letitia James (WFP-Brooklyn) who chairs the Council's sanitation committee.

Other members railed that the insights they gleaned from hours of talking to their constituents had been ignored.

"The arrogance of this administration can't even fit in this room," said Councilman Jumaane Williams (D-Brooklyn)

The arrogance of this administration is so big it can't even fit in the entire city.

But until the people of the city DO something to MAKE Bloomberg change how he governs, NOTHING will change.

He will continue to reign as King Mike the I.

  2. IDEA: WHY DON'T WE ALL UNITE AND CALL FOR HIS RESIGNATION EVERY SINGLE DAY? It's that easy. Mike WILL resign if we humiliate him before the eyes of the world.

Make some "RESIGN BLOOMBERG!" placards and let's all hit the St. Patty's Parade (filled with cops and FDNY who also all HATE the Dictator)?
