Mikey Boy

NY 1 has the tape of the boos, jeers, curses, and chants of "Union-Buster! Union-Buster!" as he walked the Saint Patrick's Day Parade route in Rockaway.

The Daily News has more:

Irish eyes were not smiling at Mayor Bloomberg.

Hizzoner was roundly booed as he marched in the first St. Patrick's Day Parade of the season in Queens Saturday, drawing jeers for his perceived attacks on union workers.

Walking through the blue-collar neighborhoods of the Rockaways, home to scores of city workers, Bloomberg was loudly heckled for his plans to lay off teachers and slash pensions .

"The classrooms are already overcrowded and now he wants to lay off thousands of teachers?" asked Jeanne O'Leary, who has been teaching at nearby Public School 104 for 10 years.

Chants of "Save our Teachers" rang out from pockets of the green-clad crowd that lined Newport Ave. and Rockaway Beach Blvd. in Belle Harbor.

Many of the spectators yelled directly at the mayor, their anger sparked by Bloomberg's plan to fire nearly 4,600 teachers and repeal the seniority-based layoff system.

"Who do you want teaching your children, some kid or someone with experience?" cried Eileen Laide, who has taught in the city for 25 years. "

Boy, this tape is music to my ears.

Oh, Mikey Boy, the boos, the boos are calling...
