Bloomberg Angry About Politicians Who "Break The Law"

I looked up the word "hypocrite" in the dictionary and saw the word "hypocrite" listed:

Mayor Bloomberg is angry about politicians who illegally slap their campaign signs all over town during election seasons - and fuming over their attempts to beat the fines.

"If elected officials don't follow the law, what hope is there for everybody else?" Hizzoner said yesterday. "I always thought that elected officials should have to be held to a higher standard."

Pols are barred from posting campaign signs on public property. The Sanitation Department issues $75 tickets for every sign it finds illegally posted around town.

Hizzoner's 2009 opponent, Democrat Bill Thompson, is appealing a $619,125 fine for 8,255 illegal signs. Public Advocate Bill de Blasio plans to fight more than $300,000 in fines.

Controller John Liu, however, is off the hook for $612,150 after his lawyer found loopholes in the summonses.

"Everybody should obey the law," Bloomberg said, without naming names. "I think it is an outrage when some of them beat the law on technicalities."

Liu's lawyer, former Brooklyn state Sen. Marty Connor, agreed the law is the law - but said the Sanitation Department needs to follow it.

"Due process is not a technicality - it's something every citizen, including campaign committees, is entitled to," Connor said. "And if the Sanitation Department had followed the law, they wouldn't have been dismissed."

At least Bloomberg isn't a hypocrite: His campaign was cited for just 70 signs in the last election.

Bloomberg's angry about politicians who skirt the law?

How about the campaign finance law that Bloomberg routinely skirts by bundling money in creative ways to the politicians he's looking to buy off?

How about the term limits law he skirted by getting one of those politicians on his payroll - Christine "Little Mikey" Quinn - to change the law for him so that he could run for a third term for mayor, then change it back so that nobody else could?

If Bloomberg is angry about politicians skirting the law, he ought to look into the mirror and see the most egregious example of it that New York City has to offer.

That would be Bloomberg himself.

  1. This is a really big story-that is that Bloomberg is delusional. The big story is that he is so out of touch that he believes his own lies he really does not see his own actions as breaking the law. He only sees what he wants to see. One of the papers or magazines recently ran a cartoon of Bloomberg looking in the mirror and loving what he sees. That is it in a NUT shell.

  2. Yes, that picture of Bloomberg and the mirror was the front cover of The New Yorker - it's amazing how Bloomberg has gone from being the beloved choice of Third Way people everywhere (as typified by the late David Broder) to now being pretty much a national joke. He's not at Palin or Trump levels YET, but there is still time.

Let's see how this NYPD scandal plays out and the DOE/Turkey outsourcing scandal too. I suspect there are a lot more scandals to come before this asshole leaves the stage - and who knows, maybe he'll leave in handcuffs? Probably not, but you never know...

  3. Reality Based Educator, the hand cuffs may be on several PBA delegates. Do not underestimate the mayor and his confederates. PBA president Lynch is up for re-election and many of his delegates are also up. This investigation is being presented at this time to undercut the PBA and Lynch. Bloomberg has few if any allies within the rank and file PD or FD or Corrections. Remember he wants to end their paid for variable supplement that he calls a BONUS. Also, the PBA and FD have been working closely with John Liu. Liu posses a threat to madam Quinn whom the mayor wants to succeed him to carry on his policies especially education. The PBA has a problem with this investigation so does Pat Lynch. Bloomberg will use all of his power and contacts to unseat Lynch. Remember too,Lynch has allies in the TWU who he supported during their strike. A high up at the PBA once told me years ago 8 or 9 that they suspected than that Weingarten was doing Bloombergs bidding. Weingarten hired Dave Hickey from the PBA after he was thrown out the door for a number of reasons. The connection is obvious to this reader. Stay tuned as the Bloomberg news also known as the NY Post will break the story mid May right up to PBA elections.
