Corporate Education Reformers Begin 2013 Subterfuge

The NY Observer says the race to continue the dismantling of the NYC public school system and the creation of a for-profit charter school system for 2013 is getting going in earnest:

In Daniel Massey's story this weekend, he has info about meetings Christine Quinn attended with education advocates, that were organized by Bradley Tusk.

In an email, Tusk has more to say about the meetings those meetings:

"The specifics of what Danny was referring to was the beginning phases of meetings and outreach from the education reform community to the likely candidates. We're doing some of it one on one. Some in groups. Some formal. Some informal. But we expect and intend to be a major force in the election and want to see where each candidate stands on our issues."

One wonders how much money is being promised in these one on one meetings to prospective candidates.

Remember when the education reform community met Little Andy Cuomo during the governor's race?

Cuomo walked out of a hotel room with a suitcase full of cash
and the next day his campaign went up with Gates Foundation/DFER-written campaign ads about "accountability" and "charter school choice."

You can bet that 2013 mayoral candidates will be promised boatloads of cash from the "education reform community" (all of whom are either hedge fund managers, computer monopolists or on the payroll of one of those.)

It goes without saying that Christine Quinn - Bloomberg's gal friday - will be on the DFER and Gates Foundation payrolls.

Let's see which of the other prospective candidates meet with them and how much cash exchanges hands.

Weiner?

Stringer?

De Blasio?

Liu?

Of that list, the candidate I trust the least - and by that, I mean the one who is the most Rahm Emanuelesque on ed policy - is Weiner.

But given the kind of money the corporate crooks are going to hand out for 2013, it will be incumbent upon us to watch these meetings very closely.
