The story made headlines and the actor temporarily stepped down from his job to exonerate himself from what he said were false allegations.
Today the person who accused the actor who plays Elmo recanted those accusations:
The man who accused Kevin Clash, the voice and puppeteer behind Sesame Street’s Elmo, of an underage sexual relationship has recanted his statement, the New York Times reports.
The accuser, who has not been named, said through his lawyers, “he wants it to be known that his sexual relationship with Mr. Clash was an adult consensual relationship.”
Clash told EW in a statement: “”I am relieved that this painful allegation has been put to rest. I will not discuss it further.”
A commenter at Entertainment Weekly wrote:
Hope Mr. Clash sues that guy for ruining his reputation! All media reported about the accusation, but not as many will report about the recanting, and even less people will bother to read about it. Sad but true.
If Kevin Clash were a teacher, Dennis Walcott would look to have him fired even though the accusation was false.
You see, just an accusation against a teacher is enough to make our finer chancellor look to bar that person from ever teaching again.
We'll see what Children's Television Workshop does here.
But what know how the NYCDOE would handle this.
