New Quinnipiac Poll Puts Bill De Blasio In The Lead

Okay, now this is news:

Public Advocate Bill de Blasio has catapulted to first place, with 30 percent of the vote, according to latest Quinnipiac poll.

The surprising new lineup puts City Council Speaker Christine Quinn in second place with 24 percent of the vote and former Comptroller Bill Thompson in third with 22 percent, a month before the Democratic primary.

Former Congressman Anthony Weiner, still reeling from his latest sexting revelations, remains behind the pack, with just 10 percent support among likely Democratic primary voters.
Mr. de Blasio would also best his rivals in a theoretical runoff, beating Ms. Quinn 54-36, Mr. Thompson 50-41 and Mr. Weiner a whopping 72 – 22.

“A few weeks ago, Public Advocate Bill de Blasio looked like an also-ran. Today, he’s the leader of the pack, and a winner in the runoffs. Follow the bouncing ball, folks. This line-up keeps changing,” pollster Maurice Carroll in a statement pointing to the shifting dynamic of the race.

It is August 13.

The primary is September 10.

This is when the public polling starts to matter - people are paying attention, ad season is in full swing.

I was wondering why Bill Thompson's campaign was busy "reintroducing" the candidate with their ads today.

Clearly the reason is because their internal polling is showing Thompson lagging behind De Blasio and Quinn.

De Blasio's candidacy, in case you were still doubting, is for real.
