Andrew Cuomo Turns 9/11 Commemoration Into A Campaign Event

When did 9/11 commemorations turn into the Daytona 500?

Gov. Andrew Cuomo, performer and songwriter Billy Joel, and Orange County Choppers star Paul Teutul, Jr. tomorrow morning will participate in a tribute motorcycle ride to commemorate the 12th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks.

The ride begins at 7 a.m. at FDNY Rescue 1 and concludes at around 8 a.m.

According to a press advisory, the ride will feature Cuomo, Joel along with Teutul and 9/11 Memorial President Joe Daniels riding with the FDNY Motorcycle Club.

Cuomo, a professed gearhead and motorcycle enthusiast, will be with dozens of FDNY members, according to the advisory.

A short memorial and prayer service will be held to honor victims and first responders.

FDNY Motorcycle Club participants gather at 6:45 a.m. at FDNY Rescue 1, 530 West 43rd St. Tribute ride begins at 7:00 a.m.

Politicians have generally kept the annual Sept. 11 memorial events in New York City at the World Trade Center site a low-key affair, sticking usually to reading short Bible verses.

You know, if the FDNY Motorcycle Club wants to ride tomorrow in tribute to 9/11 victims and first responders, that's fine.

But Andrew Cuomo should take his helmet and his motorcycle and ride somewhere else.

Same goes for Billy Joel.

Cuomo is trying to turn this into some Bush flight suit bit.

Don't kid yourself, film from this will end up in a Cuomo commercial, not for 2014 because he won't need to use it then, but in 2016, when he runs for president.

That's what this is about - showing Andy all macho and stuff, riding with the first responders.

And Billy Joel?

What the hell is he doing there and, given his driving record, why is he riding a motorcycle?

No, seriously - isn't he just getting home from the bar around 6:45 AM?

Here's some advice for Cuomo:

Keep the bike in the garage and read a passage from the Bible, have a moment of silence and then get the hell off the stage.

9/11 isn't about you.

    1. Frankly, Michael, I'm really outraged by this. This is really so self-serving, so "All About Andy." He'll probably get away with it because we're 12 years removed from it and today's the primary and there's the Syria situation - there's a lot going on that people's attention will be diverted from Andy's 6:45 AM ride. But make no mistake, Andy is pulling a Bush, only this time it's a motorcycle helmet and boots instead of a flight suit.

  2. Maybe the Billy Joel song 'Movin out" will apply to IL Duce II's second term?

  3. In defense, Billy Joel owns a bike shop in L.I., and has been a bike enthusiast for a very long time.

    1. Yes, but what does that have to do with the 9/11 commemoration?

I understand that Joel says the depression he suffers from is related to 9/11, not his alcohol use.

Is that why he gets to ride too?

I find this whole "Andy and Billy Ride With The First Responders" very offensive.

    1. If it happens, the first responders won't have far to go to get help to him.
