It was a rough first day of school for David Petraeus.
The retired general was chased down the street by an angry mob after giving his first lecture at CUNY’s Macaulay Honors College on the Upper West Side, according to a video posted online Wednesday.
The hecklers stalked the former CIA chief out of the campus Monday and called him “scumbag” and “war criminal” as he marched down Central Park West, trying to ignore them.
“You are nothing but a disgusting imperialist,” one crazed bearded man shouted at the former commander of armed forces in Iraq.
The dozen fuming activists followed him into traffic at about 64th Street, declaring they will harangue him after “every class.”
“You will leave CUNY,” one protester shouted.
The encounter was captured on a video, which ends with the crowd still following the general, who doesn’t say a word throughout the encounter.
Petraeus resigned as CIA chief in disgrace last November after a sex scandal with his biographer, Paula Broadwell.
Petraeus was criticized for accepting the CUNY position, which was set to pay him $200,000.
He later announced he would take just $1 in salary.
And the video:
Reminds me of a similar greeting students gave General Westmoreland when he came to Stony Brook in the 80's.
Great to see this.
Bet he's regretting he ever said yes to the CUNY gig instead of taking the cushy Ivy League job...
I'd much rather see them go after the politicians (who've never served militarily) responsible for sending the General to war,
ReplyDeleteNeocons like....Obama...Hillary..the annoying Senator from New York(forget his name), and many others.
Petraeus is an easy target here. If it wasn't for his military genius, the U.S. might still be in the quagmire that was Iraq. Petraeus was probably "taken out" for Democratic Party political reasons. He was contemplating running for President.
Also, these kids were lucky...he almost got hit by that speeding yellow cab at the end of this clip....manslaughter anyone...?
