Charlie Crist To Run Against Rick Scott In Florida

From Political Wire:

Charlie Crist (D) is running for Florida governor as a Democrat, the Tampa Bay Times reports.

"The worst-kept secret in politics was confirmed Friday afternoon when the Republican Party of Florida spotted Crist's official filing with the state Division of Elections."

Crist was a Jeb Bush ed deformer in the past too, but he did veto that teacher tenure bill.

Scott is very unpopular, so Crist has a good shot to knock him out.

  1. Never in a million years would I ever expect you to make the assumption that Crist will win this election when there is a up and coming star named Nan Rich who is gaining momentum. Yes Crist has the money and name recognition, but voters are starting to take a look at Nan. No one thought de Blasio had a chance in hell, and now look at him. Nan has publically stated she would stop merit pay and is against the testing agenda. She is the only Dem out there not afraid to buck RTTT. And, I know there is pressure from some pretty influential Democrats to make sure the DNC backs her because they know what an a$$ Crist is.

    1. Nan Rich has very little name recognition and will have trouble raising campaign money with Crist in the race.

Doesn't mean miracles can't happen, but this is Florida we're talking about. I would put her chances at winning the nomination as a long shot right now. Maybe something will change in the near future that will change my mind - like she'll get some traction on Crist's expediency, flip flops, etc. But that hasn't happened yet.

  2. I really, really hate that argument. That's the same argument the UFT used against de Blasio and 4 years ago Thompson.

I am doing all I can to change that but keeping her name up on my education FB page. And I think many teachers in NY have connections to Florida, so we must use it. I know she is the best candidate, and it's time we start backing the best and not the most popular. If you recall, the NY Times backed Booker because of his "Twitter" following even though they said Holt was the better legislature. Money and name recognition is killing this country.

    1. Money drives name recognition, so the two are inter-related. It's a problem, to be sure, made worse by Citizens United. But I'll keep Nan Rich in mind and check into the race every week or so.

  3. I appreciate that. She does not stand with RTTT which may be why the DNC is slow to endorse. Did you know Wasserman is a fan of Rhee's?? This is what we are up against, even here in NYC. If you can drive other bloggers to research Rich and write about her, we can reach many people. She already has the support of Palm Beach County residents. Unfortunately some education organizations who were backing her have been co-opted by Crist (and his money) and this is why we must fight harder.

    1. Wasserman sucks - never liked her. She's a neo con masking as a liberal.
