If Common Core "Roll-Out" Flawed, Why Are CCSS Tests Still Scheduled This Year?

Chris Cerrone on the Twitter:

That's a good question.

NYSED Commissioner King heard from many State Senators yesterday who told him that the state's implementation of the new Common Core State Standards has been horrendous.

They have heard this from students, parents, teachers, administrators and district superintendents  - as Sen. George Maziarz told King, the only "people who seem to be supporting this are yourself and the members of the Board of Regents.”

Even Governor Cuomo, who disappeared on the education issue over the summer and fall as opposition to the CCSS, APPR, inBloom and the state's Endless Testing regime gained steam, came out publicly to say he thinks the CCSS implementation has been "problematic."

So we have students, parents, teachers, administrators, district superintendents, members of the Legislature and even Governor Cuomo saying there are problems with how the state has implemented Common Core, and yet the CCSS tests are still scheduled for the year, students will still be penalized if their score falls below a certain threshold and teachers, principals and schools will still be held accountable for the scores.

It seems the only places where there will be no accountability measures for the CCSS is at the NYSED and the Board of Regents.

  1. Because the tests and their scoring, much like the predetermined, preordained results are already bought and paid for.Kinda like the WWW. Of course, we know who's getting the Smackdown here!
