Update On Incoming Snowstorm

Reading through the weather forum and looking at the National Weather Service updates, the models have backed off the heaviest amounts of snow they were showing earlier in the day.

National Weather Service now says 4-8 inches of snow overall from the incoming storm.

If the storm comes in on the low end, it's hard to see how de Blasio calls school for a 4 inch snowstorm.

But here's where things get funky for Friday:

Snow likely with widespread blowing snow before 9am, then widespread blowing snow and a chance of snow showers between 9am and noon, then widespread blowing snow after noon. Cloudy through mid morning, then gradual clearing, with a high near 17. Wind chill values as low as -6. Blustery, with a northwest wind 17 to 23 mph, with gusts as high as 33 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.

What say you out there?

Based on what you're hearing, do you think we'll have a snow day or will we be trudging through 30 mph gusts of blowing snow to get to school?

More importantly, will kids be trudging through 30 mph gusts of blowing snow to get to school?

If this were Bloomberg, I would expect us to have school.

But with a new mayor, it's hard to know what call he'll make.

  1. School will be open.

  2. Possibly more than the Farina nomination, the real litmus test as to whether de Blasio is a new more compassionate mayor is if he breaks with Bloomberg's fantasy of the 11th Commandment,
Thou shalt avoid calling snow days at all costs, and if thou shalt call a snow day thou must calleth the day at 6 am.

  3. Hey, what's up with Cuomo shutting down LIE in Nass and Suffolk but not Queens?
Looks like he's down with the Bloombergian anti-outer boros program.
