New York City charter school leaders are planning a massive rally at the state Capitol next Tuesday, as they pivot their advocacy to Albany after failing to make progress with the de Blasio administration.
About 2,000 students and parents from New York City and upstate charters are expected to attend the rally on March 4.
Eva Moskowitz's Success Academies will be closed on Tuesday and students and parents will be bused to Albany for the rally.
Buses will be organized by grade and will leave the city's 22 Success Academies at 7:15 a.m.
Success instructors will teach lessons on "civics, think mastery and other subjects" on the bus, according to a flier distributed to parents that was obtained by Capital. No classes will be offered at the Success campuses on that day.
As you can see from the Capital NY piece, parents need not fear students will lose out on the day's lessons - they'll be taught "think mastery" on the buses on the way up to Eva's photo op.
I am just dying to see what the think mastery rubric looks like, and what sorts of problems one would expect to find in a student who is below basic in the think mastery domains. And while I realize charters can have anybody teach anything if they feel like it, I'm still curious-- can I be certified to teach think mastery? Can I get a Think Mastery Masters Degree? If I'm not ready to go full Think Mastery, can I just do Thought Wrestling To A Standstill? And if I'm successful in my field, and I a Thought Master? And is that almost as good as being a Jedi Master?
ReplyDeleteIt's impressive that they'll be learning this THINK MASTERY on buses on the way to Albany. Why let the kids enjoy being in the moment when you can continue to drill them with lessons in "grit" or whatever the hell THINK MASTERY is.
DeleteHmm, "Think Mastery?"
ReplyDeleteIs that some kind of BDSM thing that Eva is into?
Maybe that's why NYC Educator dubbed her "Mistress Eva"?
DeleteIf ever a phrase smelled like cult speak, "think mastery" is it. What tense is it in, anyway ? Or has Eva invented a new tense for her "scholars" to learn in ?
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely sounds like cult speak, and let's be frank here - Eva and Success Academies is very cult-like it how it approaches students, families and the media. All hail the great Success and look out anybody who says otherwise.
