Comptroller Stringer Shills For Eva Moskowitz

I've never much liked Scott Stringer, so maybe I'm not giving him the benefit of the doubt, but what I hear from him here is, he's backing up Eva Moskowitz:

Controller Scott Stringer said he wants to audit charter schools — especially those colocated with traditional public schools.
Speaking to reporters after a lunch hosted by the Association for a Better New York — where Gov. Andrew Cuomo delivered the keynote speech — Stringer said an audit by his office should be required for any school that receives public funds.

While Cuomo has said he wants to change the state law to give charters additional protections, Stringer said he was a big proponent of complete mayoral control of the public school system.

But he appeared to criticize Mayor de Blasio’s decision to block three Success Academy charter schools from opening in public school buildings -- a reversal of the previous administration's decision to grant them space there.

"I believe in mayoral control,” Stringer said. “I do think this is important and I do think the mayor has authority. With that said, I do think that evicting 194 kids was not a smart move."

What about the public school students who were going to be displaced from their space by the Success students?

What about all the public school students in the decrepit public school buildings or trailers?

Nothing from Stringer about that.

He's too busy shilling for Eva.

In the past, he's taken Eva on.

But not this time around.

  1. I think Elliot Spitzer would have been so much better!! Stringer seems too passive and too willing to please people. We need a comptroller that knows how to handle bullies and Spitzer would have been perfect! He had his faults, but no more than every other politician out there.

    1. Spitzer was a big charter school supporter, so the likelihood is, he would Have been a thorn in de Blasio's side on this issue. Also, he had at least one former Students First/Rhee employee on his 2013 campaign payroll.

  2. Thanks for the info, I did not know that. I think that I just liked the fact that wall street types hated him!

    1. Yes, I liked that about him too. But he was a good friend to charters, which is a bit surprising, since so many charters have hedge fundies and banksters on their boards.

  3. DiNapoli just lost in court to audit charters and I hope he appeals. Stringer I thought was pro-public ed because his representative never voted with the Klein agenda. But we are seeing that money is winning over democracy.

As for deBlasio seeing Cuomo is not his friend, I think he knows that. But if you have been watching TV lately, Katie Couric just had on Bloomberg. And Eyewitness News Sunday talk show had on Eva. And Law & Order SVU takes potshots at the new mayor. There is an organized effort going on to denounce deBlasio. And now I am wondering about the Central Park horses. The local Fox station said that the group who want to take over those stables contributed a lot to deBlasio. Yet for years we heard how badly those horses were treated. So which is it, although I don't give much credence to Faux News, after seeing how easily our government is bought and sold I tend to believe it.
