Will The Working Families Party Endorse Cuomo?

Cuomo is the official nominee of the Democratic Party, even garnering support from "progressives" like Bill de Blasio and John Liu.

The criminals at the Independence Party are also looking for Cuomo to be on their ballot line, though Cuomo said he hasn't made up his mind about that (the paperwork he filled out says otherwise.)

Now it's the Working Families Party's turn to decide what to do with Cuomo.

There seems to be a split between the leadership of the party, which looks to back Cuomo, and the rank-and-file, which seems less inclined to back him:

“The people I've spoken with, there isn't anybody supporting Cuomo,” Dorothy Siegel, the party treasurer and chair of the W.F.P.'s South Brooklyn chapter, told Capital. "Something could happen, but I don't know what it would be."

...

"The state committee members can't endorse Cuomo, because he goes against what we stand for," she said. "Whoever is endorsed will be articulating our views. They won't be Republican views, or Democratic views. We believe now, more than four years ago, that our views are mainstream; they're popular. But you can't win at the state level with a third-party candidate. Our interest is not in teaching him a lesson, or denying him the endorsement—this is what we believe in.”

I'm a bit of a cynic when it comes to politics, so I suspect the WFP leadership will prevail and give Cuomo his coveted WFP ballot line.

What do you think?

Does WFP endorse Cuomo?

  1. WFP has sent out emails asking for input on whether or not Cuomo should be their nominee. Who knows the backend reason for them doing this.
Will that input drive the ultimate decision or is it just to appear that they are interested in John Q Public's thoughts on the matter?

    1. My sense is, that was all dog and pony show. At least from the leadership's perspective. These are union guys running that thing. If you're a UFT person, you know what I mean about dog and pony. But unlike at the UFT, there is still a democratic component to the party process. So it will be interesting to see what happens, especially w/ the rumor that Ravitch is seeking the WFP line.

    1. I've had a nasty cough for more than a week now. Every time I think it's getting better, I regress a bit. Over the weekend, I was feeling better, so Iwent swimming on Saturday. Sunday, I paid for that...

  3. Have you seen the "Cuomo Must Go" video on youtube? Someone on CuomoWatch posted it on twitter. It's great! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NlTgHIAi1QI

    1. Thanks, Mary. And now with Ravitch perhaps throwing her hat in the ring against Cuomo, we just might see Sheriff Andy fall below 50%...Astorino, Hawking, Ravitch and Cuomo...what a race that would be. Perhaps Ravitch and Hawkins go after the same vote. But I can conceivably see Diane Ravitch getting some votes that wouldn't go to Hawkins ever. And I can see Cuomo getting held under 50% in that kind of race...not enough to beat him, but enough to destroy his chances for 2016...

    1. I wonder if the Ravitch rumor changes what Hawkins thinks about WFP's bind? I am dubious it happens, but it surely is an interesting trial balloon.

  6. The hedge fund banksters support Cuomo with huge donations.
It would be absurd and foolish for WFP to support Cuomo.

    1. I agree. But that isn't how many of the union heads seem to feel. Political expediency rules the day with these people. A short-sighted, in the end destructive political expediency, but a political expediency nonetheless.
