This sounds like the right call to me.
Light snow is expected tomorrow during daylight hours, the heavy snow isn't expected to start until the nighttime.
We'll see if the storm plays out as the models are predicting.
But for now, school is on for Monday 1/26 and the Regents exams WILL be given.
Global and Integrated Algebra are in trouble. Some seniors may have the added pressure in June to pass these tests for graduation.

DeleteFariña just on News 4 New York, states school will be open all week, no exceptions as kids need to eat.

DeleteCheck out my blog posts pre-Sandy - he said it was going to be a "regular workday" despite the hurricane forecast to hit.
They were nailing him left and right on Weather Channel, Channel 5 for his refusal to call for an evacuation of Battery Park City and other Zone 2 flood zones.

Anonymous 7:24 if they declare a state of emergency in NYS, Farina isn't going to have much to say about it. Kids can't eat if there's nobody to supervise them because the roads and the MTA are shut down.

DeleteI considered that possibility lol, but given Farina's "beautiful day" comment from last winter, you never know. Sadly, I can see her saying this.
DeleteShe made no friends with the "beautiful day" remark, that's for sure. Would've been better to take the blame for making a poor decision rather than try and play it off like she did.

ReplyDeleteYes - going to be a mess now. Many students probably won't come, given what they're saying on the news, but some will - including sped and ELL students who get extra time. Going to be a mess.
DeleteAnd of course he's still going to point to these scores as reasons to fire many of us. That's the biggest irony in all of this.
I am a NYC teacher and am scheduled to proctor the Regents 11-6 today, because the kids you get extra time on the tests will be there that late. I'm worried about them going home in he dark in blizzard conditions.
ReplyDeleteI have students taking the afternoon exam as well. Now the governor is saying he may shut down the state BEFORE the evening commute. There appears to be no coordination between city/state at this point regarding what the governor is saying and what the NYCDOE is doing.
DeleteI am a NYC teacher as well and am actually proctoring til 9:20 pm. Then I live 56 miles away from the school so I won't be off the roads until well after the 11pm road shut down... as it took me over 5 hours to get home last year. This is ridiculous!
