Cuomo Says He'd Like To Run For A Third Term

He's been well below 50% in job approval in the Siena poll since late 2014 (see here, here, here, here and here), but that's not stopping Governor Andrew Cuomo from warning New Yorkers he plans to run for a third term:

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo signaled that he intends to run for a third term in 2018.

“We are in the midst of a phenomenal transformation in the state of New York,” Cuomo told reporters in Manhattan Monday. “There’s nothing else that I would rather do than what I’m doing. I plan to stay as long as the people will have me.”

I've never before seen hundreds of thousands of parents opt their children out of the state tests before.

    The interesting thing to watch will be whether any current Democrat, particularly state AG Eric Schneiderman, thinks AC weak enough to challenge in a primary.

    This bravado by AC is a way of drawing a line in the sand for anyone beginning to think about it.

      I dunno why, but Schneiderman and DiNapoli mostly defer to him.

      I think you're right, he's in some way marking his territory. Even if he has no intention of running, he wants to keep that "his territory" for as long as he can.

    The bravado is his best hope against sinking inot serious lame duckery. People are tired of this guy and his lying and egotistical claims. If Hillary is elected--and Preet does not get enough to make his case--look for LIl'Mario to slink off to some minor cabinet role after 2016. He is toast--finished!

    Though not a betting man, I'd wager $100 right now that, not only will Cuomo not serve a third term, he will not even run.

    In four years, he'll be the most hated man in the state.

      I agree, Michael. This is an attempt to ward off lame duckery and make believe he's still relevant as his term goes on. With the budget battle expending much political capital, Preet set to strike again (on Skelos this time) and hundreds of thousands rejecting his ed reform agenda, he's not in a strong position to run for a third term at all.

    I can't tell you how fervently I pray that both your predictions come true big time. I've never hated a politician as much as I've hated Cuomo. The absolute opposite of his father. The only politician I've hated slightly less has been Bloomberg. He has a special place in hell too.

    Go to NYSAPE.org, click on "NY parents have spoken". You will be directed to their Coalitions' letter to Cuomo, Regents Leadership, and State Legislature. In the letter, the Coalition makes very clear what they think of the State Leadership and what they will change in our education system going forward.
