Dennis Walcott, the former chancellor for New York City schools, vowed to work cooperatively with the East Ramapo schools as the new state monitor for the district — but also pledged to hold them accountable for their actions.
Walcott was officially announced today as the monitor for the troubled Rockland County district by state Education Commisioner MaryEllen Elia and Board of Regents Chancellor Merryl Tisch.
“This effort will be both cooperative and collaborative; we will work directly with the East Ramapo school board but we will not shy away from keeping the district accountable to the community when we identify areas of improvement,” Walcott said in a statement.“Our goal is to help the district develop sustainable practices to ensure that East Ramapo is able to provide, and actually does provide, appropriate educational programs for all its students. My team will get started right away, and one of our first orders of business will be to engage the district, its students, staff, parents and stakeholders.”
What, was Joel Klein busy?
Oh, yes, that's right - he has been busy losing $371 million dollars.
So out steps Walcott.
Amazing how they keep shuffling members of the Titanic musicians guild around the deck to play the same old song while the ship goes down, eh?
Another winning move by MaryEllen Elia.
Still crowing about that appointment, NYSUT?
Pigs at the trough.
ReplyDeleteNYSAPE has just released their latest public statement, and they clearly stated that opt out will grow in spite of the threats.
ReplyDeleteWalcott! Love the guy. He didn't even know he was the chancellor. Ah ha hahahaaaa. Shael Suransky and Mark Sternberg were running the show. Walcott was the black guy to calm the public down, after Cathy Black.

DeleteThis will be the death knell for my alma mater (Spring Valley HS). East Ramapo was once one of the top districts in the state. Now look at it.
ReplyDeleteThank goodness I didn't accept when they offered me a teaching position in 1999.
These guys have more lives than cats. Maybe someone can recycle me.

ReplyDeleteAnd do you really think Cuomo wants to lose the Jewish vote. The fix is in. It's horrible what's happening in just there but in the 5 Towns of Long Island. No one who doesn't have a stake in public ed should be on any school board.
ReplyDeleteThe Common Core "merry-go-round" twirls once again.
ReplyDeleteThe revolving cycle of "appointments and transfers" is identical to the questions on the state(s) exams...
"Around and around and away they go...
Where they will stop, no one really knows...
Recycling their old ideas like old laundry.
Thus, the legacy of Gates and Bloomberg...
Stale corporate zombies to run their stale corporate agendas.
Wait until we unveil the next attacks against their "meaningless" exams...New York City is about to get a boost from the previous 1% they cited...the next opt-out numbers net year will range from 600,000 to 1,000,000...
