NYSED Admits Common Core Review Is A Dog And Pony Show

From yesterday's Politico NY morning update:

STATE ED: NO ‘MAJOR RE-WORK’ PLANNED FOR COMMON CORE—POLITICO New York’s Keshia Clukey: “The state Education Department is soliciting comment on the Common Core learning standards, but it's ‘not undertaking a major re-work of the standards,’ it said on the website for its survey. The department launched its 40-day comment period Wednesday with a survey, dubbed AIMHighNY, available to parents, student, educators and community members...‘[State Education Commissioner MaryEllen Elia] has consistently said it’s too soon to know what will be changed exactly, but we owe it to our students to maintain our commitment to high standards,’ Education Department spokeswoman Jeanne Beattie said in an email. ‘And she believes our review will lead to a stronger set of standards for students...We are not starting from scratch..Over the past five years, New York teachers have made great strides implementing the more rigorous learning standards in their classroom. We owe it to them and to our students to build upon what’s working and revise what’s not.’”

Rather than send any comments to NYSED for their dog and pony show Common Core review, best to send comments to your state legislators instead and tell them you will hold them PERSONALLY accountable for the mess that is education policy in New York State and will look to vote them out office at the very next opportunity.

Those are the comments anybody in Albany will understand.

And to be frank, until a couple of the criminals in Albany get voted out BECAUSE of their support for education reform, Endless Testing and Common Core, I suspect that not much will change.

  1. I just logged on to take the survey. What a colossal waste of time. This survey will take hours to complete as each sub-menu drills down and before you know it, you will be awash in minutae that NO ONE at SED will ever take seriously. Talk about B.S.! This is nothing but a "smoke and mirrors" ploy to give folks the impression that their input counts. Yeah, right. I believe that we are ultimately just going to just play out this whole game to a stalemate. Just like the Benghazi hearings, this is a huge waste of time. The outcome is already in place. It's another attempt to just wear us down, folks. Albany is plenty good at slinging the sh*t and here's another example.

I pray that the day of reckoning will come when all the major players in this hoax FINALLY get their due. The best way to complete this bogus survey would be to hold after-school Happy Hours at a local bar where multiple computer stations are set up.
I have nothing but hate and anger for the assholes who come up with this crap disguised as being collaborative and important!

  2. Hey, NYSED and Elia only promised to "repaint" the Common Core not to "review," "change," or "revise" any of it.

It's important to take these people at their word, except, of course, when they promise you anything involving "participation", "stake-holder status" or "close and frequent communication."

I'm surprised that they've asked for [futile] suggestions and comments about anything other than the color of the paint to be used. In that spirit, I suggest:

--the exquisite "Fire and Ice" (, appropriate for the coming Apocalypse awaiting teachers and students upon the re-branding of the Common Core or,

--the utilitarian "Carbon Copy Black", because the result of the con job will be a straight copy of the old pig with some new lipstick.

    God help us all....

  3. RBE,
Possible to list exact names (legislators)? Do you mean people like Jeff Klein in the Bronx? He's my State Senator for our school. Is this what you mean by contacting? Or is it someone else? Who are the people who vote this in? Names would help.

  4. Votes from the Senate:

    Votes from the Assembly:

  5. What an insane waste of resources.

    1. Like $trillions spent on wars that benefit the 1% and destroy lives. The US government seems heavy duty into wasting what they take from the workers. Hmmm, take from one drone to pay for another.
