  1. I've always thought your blog told it like it is. That you know about and took a moment to recognize the great Snooky Young is not at all surprising, given your depth of understanding about life and the issues. Continue the great work you do.

  2. I first came across Snooky Young on that great live Band album "Rock of Ages." I just loved the horn charts on that album (great work by Allen Toussaint to write those) and then when I realized that he was actually a member of the Tonight Show band, well, I started to look for him on the show. Every once in a while, he get the spotlight, and that was always great to see. I miss that band - yeah, Letterman's band is a great band and Leno's band was a great band, but there was just something about The Tonight Show Band when Carson had the show that was special. So many of them are gone now - Johnny, Ed, Tommy Newsome, now Snooky - makes me a little sad, but 92 is a good age to live to and playing with everybody from Basie to Benny Goodman to Lionel Hampton to The Band, well, that's just a pretty cool life.

Anyway, I saw the news this morning and thought I'd like to acknowledge the man and his passing. Plus the two You Tube videos are pretty cool.
