Quinnipiac Poll: Stringer-Spitzer Race Within Margin Of Error (UPDATED)

This Quinnipiac poll was taken pre-Weiner Penisgate 2.0 and shows a close race between Spitzer and Stringer:

The Democratic primary race for New York City Comptroller is tight, but Eliot Spitzer holds a slight lead over Scott Stringer, 49-45, according to a new Quinnipiac University poll.

The margin of error was 4.4 percentage points, which puts Spitzer's lead within the MOE.

It will be interesting to see if Spitzer's support takes a hit from Weinergate 2.0.

We'll have to wait for a post-Weingergate 2.0 poll for a week or so.

But if this Quinnipac poll is even close to accurate, it shows that Stringer still has a shot to win this race and Spitzer cannot afford a Weineresque stumble.

UPDATE - 1:40 PM: Marist poll out shows Spitzer with a much bigger lead.

Both of these polls were taken pre-Weinergate 2.0, so I think we have to take both with a grain of salt.

While Spitzer is not directly involved in Weinergate 2.0, he and Weiner are inextricably linked this campaign cycle and whatever affects Weiner has some affect on Spitzer too.

  1. New NBC poll has Quinn at 25% Weiner down to 16% Thompson at 14%, I hope Quinnipiac poll from yesterday is correct and Thompson would defeat Quinn in the runoff, ABQ.

    1. Thanks - saw it. I have to update this Spitzer/Stringer post with that Marist poll, then I'll be writing that up.
