Three States Have Dropped Common Core, More To Follow

Common Core supporters say this is no big deal - but of course it is:

Oklahoma has officially dropped the polarizing Common Core academic standards — marking a major shift by former supporter Gov. Mary Fallin.

In a much-anticipated decision Thursday, Fallin, a Republican, signed legislation repealing the standards Thursday afternoon. She said Oklahoma has the ability to develop superior standards and federal meddling in advocating for the standards drove her decision.

...

Just this January, at a National Governors Association meeting, Fallin defended the academic standards
...
Fallin’s signing of the bill was a wild card, unlike decisions by fellow red-state governors in South Carolina and Indiana. Nikki Haley and Mike Pence had openly criticized the standards in the months preceding their approval of legislation authorizing state-written standards.

It matters that a Republican governor who was shilling for the Common Core just six months ago has just been pressured to sign a bill into law that repeals the standards in the state of Oklahom.

That's three states out quite a few more on the horizon:

About 100 bills to slow, stop or reverse Common Core requirements were introduced in state legislatures across the country this year, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures, an 85 percent increase over the year before.

North Carolina may be the next to drop the CCSS.

CCSS proponents want to make like these defections don't matter - three states out, 42 still in, blah, blah blah.

But you can see which way the trajectory is going on this issue - CCSS opponents and critics have the momentum  and the politicians are starting to listen.

Even a CCSS shill like Mary Fallin, who just last January thought Common Core was swell.

  1. There needs to be great pressure in New York to drop these foolish standards and the myriad tests "aligned" with it that abuse our children.

Zephyr Teachout, Howie Hawkins, Brian Jones. If a governor can abolish it, we need a new governor with a new vision, or pressure throughout this coming election.

Prepare for our own union and the media to pay no mind to any candidates other than Cuomo and Astorino...

But, students, their parents, their relatives, their friends and their teachers know the educational abuses that are currently occurring.

    Change must happen.

PLEASE (no matter where you live) WRITE TO lore@siadvance.com AND TELL HER TO REPORT ON THE MASSIVE RISE AGAINST COMMON CORE, AND GIVE HER YOUR TOP REASON FOR WANTING IT REPEALED WITH SUPPORTING EVIDENCE! PLEASE HELP ME WAKE UP STATEN ISLAND!

Sorry about the long post but I figured you, Arthur and Norm could spread the word. Staten Island is the most backwater borough but there are parents who are aware of this. (I just opted my kids out of the field test) I know we (the 23% who voted no) will never get NYs dumbest (the 77%) to see the forest for the trees yet maybe this may be a way to sway them.
