What Does This Sound Like?

From Capitol Confidential:

In the news conference, Bharara said his office wasn’t the only investigative entity to have probed Silver’s outside work, and noted the Moreland panel’s work on the subject.

“But a deal was cut that cut off the commission’s work,” Bharara said. “To the great relief of Sheldon Silver, who furiously fought its subpoenas and urged the commission’s early shutdown, Moreland was made to close its doors after only nine months, its work barely begun, and while litigation over those subpoenas about Sheldon Silver’s outside income was still pending before a state judge.”

“The show-me-the-money culture of Albany has been perpetuated and promoted at the very top of the political food chain,” Bharara said.

A spokesman for Cuomo had no immediate comment.

Thoughts?

  1. It sounds like that if a deal was cut to shield Silver, then there must be an equivalent "quid pro quo" in order to conceal the corruption. Since sunlight is always the best disinfectant, who, what and how much is this "quid pro cuomo"? ...Any thoughts?

  3. From this telling, the implication seems to be that Silver made a deal with "somebody" to bury the investigation into his affairs.

So, is Bharara interested in the other side of the equation, the other party to the deal, or is Shelley's scalp supposed to tie things things in a bow and get everyone to move on?

Based on his studied avoidance of prosecuting banksters in the aftermath of the financial crisis, I'd be very surprised to see the US Attorney's office go near our Reptilian Governor. He's carrying too big of a torch for the Overclass right now, and that may protect him, no matter his crimes.

  4. Cuomo is trading his influence to the private education corporations. Silver's arrest is an indispensable part of that procedure. The governor is resembling Kelsey Grammar's portrayal of a very flawed politican on "Boss". Great fiction, horrid non-fiction.
