Charter School Rally Motto: “Being dumb is so whack.”

Big show from the "underdogs" in the education "war":

ALBANY - Thousands of city charter school kids got a lesson in New York politics - and a performance from Ashanti- as the battle over Gov. Cuomo’s education agenda raged in dueling rallies at the Capitol Wednesday.

The students, many of them from Eva Moskowitz’s Success Academy Network, got a day off school to take part in a huge rally on the steps of the Capitol that called for an end to the “failing schools crisis” and featured the hip-hop singer and WNBA star Lisa Leslie.

“I think we just need to end the crisis,” Ashanti said afterward. “The kids are suffering the most.”
During her performance, Ashanti told the crowd: “Being dumb is so whack.”

It sure is, Ashanti.

It sure is.

To prove that, take a look again at Families For Excellent Schools' Jeremiah Kittredge go mano a mano with the press yesterday over his ridiculously inflated rally attendance estimate, charges the children were being used as political props and the overall price tag of the rally (which Kittredge refused to divulge):

Maybe they should have had Ashanti do the presser and Kittredge do the song and dance performance?

He was moving his head enough, that's for sure.

  2. I read that Ashanti was recently paid $20,000 to speak at a high school event. I bet that she got paid a lot more to speak at this charter school rally. Did the taxpayers front the bill? I am guessing that the goons at Families for Excellence Schools coughed up the cabbage for this propaganda fest.

  3. Here is what sickens me: My own state Senator John J. Flanagan, chairman of the Senate Education Committee was at the rally again this year. He stood next to Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos. They both stood behind Eva Moskowitz at the lectern. They both made ridiculous pro-charter, anti-public school comments.

Let's be clear: I am a Republican. Flanagan and Skelos run as Republicans, but they have no real political ideology. They are both addicted to the perks, power and privileges of their offices. They both have their campaign coffers filled by the charter school interests. What do they spend these monies on? Take a look at their campaign committee filings. They will make you sick.

  5. Being dumb is so wack should be the UFT new tagline with a picture of the paid spokeswoman known as shanti with eva moskowitz and her bare legs as ms moskowitch does not want to spend any money on panty hose nor buildings for her kids to use instead of stealing from the nyc public school kids....

  8. I especially like the way the charter stooge has his own little stooge saying That's a wrap as if they're on a sound stage somewhere with Scorcese. Take yourselves seriously enough boys? Meanwhile the media people weren't even buying it. How bad must you be these days to rep charter schools and have reporters come at you instead of giving you the free pass charters always get?
