I guess I shouldn't be surprised.
Bloomberg has declared a "weather emergency" and told New Yorkers to not do any "unnecessary driving."
Any vehicle blocking a roadway will be towed.
He says tomorrow morning's commute is not going to be easy and tomorrow night's won't be easy either.
But NYC schools as of now are open.
He says a call will be made at - you guessed it! - 5 AM.
Why can't he make a call earlier than that?
He says if the sidewalks are passable and the buses and trains are kinds sorta running, the schools will be open.
You see, we cannot afford to lost a day of instruction.
If the schools cannot be closed for either bedbugs or PCB's, why should they be closed for a 6-12 inches of snow?
If I had to bet my BLOOMBERG FOR PRESIDENT 2012 button by making a call right now, I'd say that schools will be open tomorrow.
I just got home from school after grading 800 critical lens essays and 400 controlling idea and literary element paragraphs respectively and then bubbling in all that "data" so that the ELA Regents exams can be sent off to Pearson to be "calibrated."
I could really use a day off tomorrow and I could really use knowing that tonight.
But I suspect I will be trudging in through 8 or so inches of snow tomorrow.
Mayor Bloomberg, of course, will be taking his SUV to work.
Bloomberg First, Teachers and Students Last.
