Sting Loves Charter Schools, Hates Children

Former Police frontman Sting (aka Gordon Sumner) looks like an asshole.

Stories in both the media and accounts by his former bandmates say he is an asshole.

If this piece in the Post is true, we have another example of his assholitude:

Sting stung a helpless 12-year-old fan Wednesday night during intermission at the Broadway hit "The Book of Mormon." When the lad spotted Sting in the audience at the Eugene O'Neill, he approached the star and declared that "Message in a Bottle" was his favorite tune. But it wasn't music to Sting's ears. "I'm not Sting," replied Sting, according to an onlooker. "I'm some British dude." The Police frontman was spotted the next night watching Robin Williams in "Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo" at the nearby Richard Rodgers. No children were harmed.

Sting has raised money for charter schools and used to teach back in the day when he was still Gordon Sumner.

He says he raises lots of money for lots of charity causes.

You would think somebody like that might be a halfway decent bloke.

But in Sting's case, you would be wrong.

I guess when it comes to meeting actual children and giving them just a minute of his time and treating them like human beings, that's just too difficult a proposition for the Policeman.

Maybe he only likes people in crowds?

Anyway, it's too bad Led Zeppelin's John Bonham didn't make good on his threat to step on Sting's face for being an arrogant asshole.

If anybody could use a good stomping by a drummer, it's Sting.

  1. I had heard of his arrogance but I never read or heard the story about John Bonham, one of the all time great rockers, the prototype for heavy rock drummers. Where can I find that info? Yes, if the reports are true then this should be added to ten sumners tales. I spoke once with Omar Hakim and he confirmed that Sting is an arrogant egotistical but talented S.O.B.

  2. A lot of that ilk are talented assholes. From what I heard, Bowie was a bastard to up and comers and was a major league asshole. I met Bo Diddley and guess what??? He was a rip-off-the-up-and-comers asshole too. Sting, I'm sure, has not known how to be an educator for decades. He knows how to write songs, and should stick to that. He's just another rich asshole now.

  3. I casually know a guy who's been making it pretty big in music...and ya know what? He's completely changed over the last year, and has turned into an arrogant prick...or at least getting there. I guess it's the nature of the beast, fame turns them into that. The privilege and accolades do something to them. So I imagine it would do the same to me, and probably the rest of us as well. You know that old song-"walk a mile in my shoes." The music biz is as sleazy, competitive, and ephemeral as it gets, so those who are successful at it probably become very jaded and cynical.Of course someone as wealthy as Sting is just another celebrity. You know, it CAN be a drag when every stranger, or kid you meet wants to tug at your shirt all day and night long. How many times has he been asked the same questions, with all the gushing and all. But the Bonham story doesn't seem to add up-wasn't Bonham dead before The Police made it big?

  4. John Bonham indeed threatened to step on Sting's face. The story comes from Bonham's son, Jason, who of course is himself a drummer.

Here is a link. You can google and find others that seem to document the story as well:
