A couple of weeks of constant battering from her opponents has cost City Council Speaker Christine Quinn a few points in the latest mayoral poll — but she still leads her closest Democratic rival by 18 points.
The Quinnipiac University survey found Quinn favored by 32 percent of Democratic voters, down from 37 percent in the previous poll, which was released on Feb. 27.
To avoid a runoff, a mayoral candidate would have to collect at least 40 percent of the vote in the Sept. 10 primary.
Most of the voters lost by Quinn moved to the undecided column and not to her opponents.
Former city Comptroller Bill Thompson was the only one who gained ground — he went from 11 percent to 13.
Public Advocate Bill de Blasio held at 14 percent, the same as in February, and current city Comptroller John Liu dropped from 9 percent to 7 percent. Thirty percent were undecided.
“We’d be worried if they were picking up her voters, but they’re not,” said one Quinn ally.

The poll of 1,417 registered voters was conducted April 3-8, days before former Rep. Anthony Weiner disclosed that he’s thinking of jumping into the race.
That was also a period during which Quinn was coming under fierce attack for proposing an outside inspector general for the NYPD and for supporting a bill mandating paid sick leave, a different version of which she had earlier opposed.
Anything to explain away Quinn's drop in the polls.
It is true that the loss of support did not go to the candidates other than Thompson.
It is also true that Liu dropped a couple of points.
But the poll reinforces the reality that is gaining ground with voters.
While they're not sure who they want to be mayor, they re beginning to be sure they don't Quinn.
The Post can play wingman for Quinn all they want.
They can't stop the steady drumbeat of bad news for her in other news outlets, nor the ads hammering her over term limits, slush funds and other things.
Quinn's got political skills, so I'm not ready to put a fork in her campaign yet.
But as an ABQ person, I am happy to see her numbers falling away from the magical 40% line that would be keep her from having a runoff before the general election.
Here is some news for you not in the news. Dominic Recchia one of Quinns stooges on the council is term limits out (ha ha),but he had a horse in the race. A 27 year old rich kid who is a member of a real estate family (Louis Jerome) was Recchia's hand picked successor. Yesterday he pulled out and announced he is starting a super pac to help candidates who support local business interests. You know where this is going. Quinn was all about campaign finances being void of oustide super pac money. I guess she became scared shitless after the recent attacks. SO, there you have it these real estate business folks will no doubt have ties to Joe Sitt the Bloomberg ally who practically was given Coney Island land for peanuts. Guess who is the councilmen for that district? Domenic Recchia Quinns Johnny Ola(From Godfather II). Check it out, yeah Quinn has problems that will not go away no matter how much she spends .ABQ/Term Limits!!!

ReplyDeleteI'm not surprised that some of the crooks are coming out of the woodwork to help her and raise cash for her. They probably figure they can bribe whomever gets elected, but Quinn they KNOW they can bribe because she's already taken their money!
