Police swarmed Washington Avenue outside of the State Education Building just before noon after a report of a suspicious package on the steps outside the building.
It turned out to be a box and hand truck left behind by a Xerox deliveryman, according to Mayor Jerry Jennings.
The building was not evacuated because of the location of the package; workers heading out for lunch streamed from the east and west entrances, and gathered at the ends of the block to take in the scene despite a whipping wind that kicked up dust from West Capitol Park, which is undergoing repairs.
Given the awful news from Boston and Waco, everyone is on edge this week.
Glad to hear the package was innocuous.
Most days we don't blink at a box and a hand truck left somewhere.
Unfortunately given the state of the world, we're back to looking at those kinds of things suspiciously.
