State Sen. Kathy Marchione, a Saratoga County Republican, is robocalling to urge her constituents to take an online poll about the controversial state common core standards.
"I, too, have real concerns about common core and it's possible impact on our children, teachers and schools," Marchione says in the call, which I just received.
Marchione asks constituents to go to her website and vote in her poll on whether they support, oppose or are undecided on the common core standards. She then urges people to go to her Facebook page and comment on common core.
"This is your chance to have your say about common core," she says.
The tougher standards have been derided in many circles across the state as relying too much on standardized testing. Others like Mayor Bloomberg have supported the tougher standards.
The standards aren't "tougher" - they're badly designed, often age-inappropriate and tied to an insane amount of testing.
That Marchione is saying she has real concerns about the CCSS and is polling shows you where we've moved over the last year on this.
Last year at this time, would an upstate Republican have been saying openly she has concerns about the CCSS and the impact it is having on children, teachers and schools?
Students First can fill downstate CCSS forums with shills all they want.
The politicians in Albany are getting the message that many New Yorkers do not like the CCSS, the testing or the evaluation system that mandates the testing - we know this because of the actions they're taking and the statements they're making.
