Again according to the weather boards, the radar shows the heaviest snows now coming north with reports of about 2 or 3 inches inches an hour coming down (WABC 7 reported 3 inches an hour coming down in Tom's River.)
It will be interesting to see how the morning progresses.
Had they waited until this morning, they still probably would have had school opened - as NYC Educator noted in his post, there wasn't much snow overnight and the storm is looking like a bust so far.
Alas, if the weather board people are right that the heaviest snow is still to come, it's going to make for one big mess today with all the people heading into the city for work and school - and getting home might be even worse.
Here's what ABC is forecasting for the day:
Heavy snow thru noon, then ice, then rain, then snow tonite. @EvansWeather has the AccuWeather forecast on @ABC7NY #ABC7NYSnow #ABC7WakeUp

Even NYC OEM has this:
OEM Issues Hazardous Travel Advisory for Thursday and Friday
OEM issued a Hazardous Travel Advisory for Thursday, February 13, and Friday, February 14. The National Weather Service has forecast 8 to 12 inches of snow accumulation through Thursday evening, with 4 to 7 inches of snow forecast for the Thursday morning commute. The snow is forecasted to change to a wintry mix or all rain in the late afternoon before changing back to snow with an additional 2 to 5 inches of accumulation Thursday evening.
Dr. Bill Evans of WABC tweets the following:
@TheBigEasy58 I love it when OEM & the Mayor's Office says "Don't' Go Out If You Don't Have To", But The NYC Schools Are OPEN!
