Bloomberg Hires Another Spinmeister For White House Run

Just in case you think the fall-out from the Bloomberg Blizzard Disaster of 2010 has Mayor Bloomberg thinking twice about running for president in 2012, check out this item from Politico:

“Richard Powell Jr. to Lead Communications Efforts for Bloomberg” – From release: “Bloomberg L.P. today announced that Richard C. Powell, Jr. will join the company as [global] chief communications officer [a new position, based in New York]. He will join the company from Burson-Marsteller, where he [has been] chief operating officer worldwide [for the past four years]. … Powell will oversee the expansion of Bloomberg’s communications strategy and infrastructure to support the company’s global growth in new and existing markets. … Powell will report to Kevin Sheekey, head of government relations and public affairs at Bloomberg L.P. and Chairman of Bloomberg Government. … [Earlier, Powell was] managing director of Quinn Gillespie & Associates in Washington … [Bloomberg] employs more than 12,500 people in 137 offices around the world.” Full release http://bit.ly/hpwfrz

--Rick, husband of Goldman executive and Bush administration official Dina P. Powell, was recruited by the indefatigable and persuasive Kevin Sheekey. Rick starts Feb. 1, and “will focus on building a world-class communications team and capability for a world-class company.”

Sheekey is the guy who has spearheaded the shadow "Bloomberg for President" campaign we have seen waged in the media for the past few years.

So if Sheekey hired Powell to "focus on building a world-class communications team," you can bet that a) Bloomberg still thinks he's running for president in 2012 and b) he is going to hire a garbage pail full of spinmeisters to shill for him at Bloomberg News, Bloomberg Businessweek, and Bloomberg Opinions.

It's amazing, after the failures of the third term, you'd think Bloomberg would get some humility and pay attention the job he is doing now.

But you would be wrong about that.

His eye remains squarely on the White House.
