Where Are The Editorials About CityTime?

On Monday, the U.S. attorney unveiled new indictments in the CityTime scandal and stated that $600 million the city spent on the payroll project was "tainted" either directly or indirectly by fraud.

He said that the project itself was "corrupted to its core" and the fraud was "epic in magnitude, duration and scope."

He said this was one of the "most brazen frauds ever committed against New York City."

11 people have been indicted so far in the scandal. More indictments have been promised in the near future. That may include the indictment of current and/or former Bloomberg administration officials (I would say former Office of Payroll Administration Director Joel Bondy is definitely in some jeopardy.)

And yet, we hear total silence from the intrepid editorial writers at the Post, News, and Times today about this scandal.

Not a peep about the $600 million that Mayor Bloomberg allowed to be stolen by crooks hired as consultants working on a project that went $700 million over budget and years over time.

Not one peep.

No outrage, no "How did this happen?", no "Bloomberg needs to take responsibility!" - nothing.

Let me ask you a question - had this been a unionized project with union employees stealing even 1% of the money stolen by the SAIC and Technodyne crooks, do you think the intrepid editorial writers at the Post, News and Times would have waited even a day to write how the scandal proves unionized employees are crooked and unions are corrupt to the core and must be punished for their crimes?

I'll answer that question for you - of course not.

They never miss an opportunity to do just that.

So how is it that Bloomberg is getting a pass on allowing his private outside consultants to steal $600 million dollars from the city over the course of eight years, allowing these same consultants to perform their own oversight on the projects (which is why the fraud wasn't caught much earlier), and for continuing to spend hundreds of millions of dollars on outside consultants and tech projects with little-to-no oversight that need to be scrutinized?

I mean, it's not as if CityTime is an isolated incident. There are at least two other ongoing scandals at the DOE - one involving a tech consultant arrested for stealing millions from the DOE and using it to build his own real estate sub-development and another scandal involving a former official at Tweed who has resigned as the project she supervised has come under intense scrutiny by the city's Dept. of Investigations for fraud and corruption.

It's not like there isn't a pattern of corruption by the consultants hired by Bloomberg, an abject disregard to oversight of these consultants by Bloomberg and his administration or a public record of hundreds of millions of dollars stolen by crooks from the city.

And yet, all we get from the intrepid editorial writers at the Post, News and Times is silence on the CityTime matter.

You can bet if these were teachers or unionized employees accused of these crimes, there would be no silence.

POSTSCRIPT: As if to prove my point, the Times is running a huge front page story this morning about - shock, shock - the political influence unions use to win benefits for their members. Omigod, how could unions be allowed to lobby politicians, use smart strategies to try and win larger salaries and benefits for their members, etc.?

Only corporations should be allowed to lobby politicians and use smart strategies to try and win tax subsidies and other benefits from local, state and the federal government!

What a joke - if unions do it, it's a crime worthy of a five page story at the Times.

If corporations do it, however, it's the natural order of things.
