A Moratorium On Tying Test Scores To Teachers Does No Good

I agree with Chris Cerrone:

The problem is not tying teacher evaluations to test scores.

The problem is the mandating of standardized tests onto schools by the federal and state governments.

It leads to the culture of quantification - only what can be measured is valued.

Experience tells me that it is more often what cannot be measured that is most valuable - love, compassion, empathy.

  2. I commented on some NYSUT tripe the other day that a 3 yr moratorium on CCSS will not transform a swine's ear into a silk purse. It will simply result in a decomposing swine's ear that will still stink for our kids and teachers. Last time I heard Cuomo and unions mentioned it was when he barred the Presidents of the 3 largest public employee unions from attending the Democratic Convention. They were told they were off the list unless they came and promised him they'd behave.Denny Donohue told him to suck it, Ianuzzi got a free pass from his pal Wasserman Schultz and I can't recall what became of the third. In this case I think it's safe to say Cuomo can once again suck it. The guy's got incredible nerve asking unions for anything.
