Next Time Deformers Trot Out The "China's Kicking Our Ass On Test Scores" Meme

The high scores on standardized tests that Chinese students garner have not brought increased wisdom to the geniuses running the country, that's for sure.

Between the poisoned environment, the "casino capitalism" of the economy, the "ghost cities," the increasing cancer rates and other health-related crises,  and the explosions from toxic chemicals that are so large they can be seen from space, perhaps we have enough evidence that we should stop worrying about how well China does on standardized tests?

To be frank, the high test scores don't seem to translate to all that much that is positive.

  1. They called a "press" conference to discuss their third devaluation in as many days and wouldn't allow many news reporters to attend.

    1. Yes, saw that. I'd say unbelievable except, well, it isn't.

Remember a few years ago when the shills on CNBC would talk up the Chinese stock market as the bestest thing since fireworks?

  2. Maybe Joel Klien could move to China to help them run their businesses and schools (oops - same thing).

    1. Take Walcott and Cerf with him.

    2. Alas, Wolcott cannot go, since he has a new gig as the East Ramapo monitor.

  3. Also when Bloomberg becomes mayor of London he can again use Klien to implement his business model for the horrid public schools there. That should completely discredit the whole scheme.

    1. How about that rumor - just more of the "Michael Bloomberg wants attention, has his shills drops crumbs for the media" stuff.

  4. If I'm not mistaken, China releases only the scores of Shanghai. And not all kids even get to take these tests there. Ignoring the great bulk of the country makes these scores indicative of nothing whatsoever.

    1. Yes, but as I noted below, even if the stats were on the up and up, I wouldn't want to emulate their education system. No system that invented "gutter oil" should ever be emulated:

  5. Only a select group goes on to the levels that take these exams. Stats are not valid.

    1. Of course not, the stats are rigged via selection, but even if they weren't, even if they were on the up and up, take a look at what Chinese society have wrought. I happen to think the U.S. is pretty screwed up (see GMO's, see Donald Trump, see ed deform, see the political process) - but holy hell, China's worse. Yet this is the society pointed to by deformers as something to be worried about.

  6. We cannot overlook the sheer numbers.
There are so many wealthy Chinese that they had become the dominant buyers of real estate for several years now. That includes NYC where 30% of all luxury condo sales have been to Chinese. This is happening all over the world in major cities. I have actually known people who were approached with suitcases full of cash.
They've been buying property like crazy in Sydney, Australia as well.
They're doing deals with governments all over the world.

  7. Went through Kennedy airport international departures yesterday. The majority of people on the security lines exiting the US were Chinese. None of those that I saw were holding America passports.
    China on the move.
