Nothing More Edifying Than Brooklyn-Queens Day

Did everybody enjoy their PD today?

Did anybody find any of it worthwhile?

If so, would love to hear what it is was.

  2. It was actually a pretty good day. Over twenty people showed up for PD Committee brainstorming meeting where we came up with some interesting ideas on how to use the 80 minute PD block for next year. Then Principal gave me time to hold a Chapter meeting to explain new contract and time reconfiguration for next year. That went well. After that, our PTA treated us to a nice luncheon where we all ate a little too much. Capped it off with PD which was led by Prinicpal but which gave us a lot of time to discuss things with our groups.

  3. I went to a PD to learn about ASSessment but speaker could not effectively deliver his own content. A real waste of time.

    1. I love it when consultants brought in to teach teachers how to teach can't teach.

      Really crystallizes the problem so many reformers have with arrogance.

  5. We talked about Common Core and then testing, and then some more Common Core, followed by more testing, and then we took a break. After the break, they decided to change things up a bit, so they talked about testing and then Common Core.

    I feel for public school students and their parents. This reform crap is bad.

    1. Well, I'm glad to see they mixed things up a bit for you, Pogue.

      BTW, Oklahoma, South Carolina and Indiana are now out of the Common Core, North Carolina may soon follow.

      The harder they push on CCSS, the heavier the pushback gets.

      Not that you'd know it from Brooklyn Queens Day.

  6. We had Efficacy Training two days this week where we learned that all of our students' failures are our fault because we have bad attitudes. This can be attributed to the fact that many of us are racists with fixed mindsets. One epiphany that was revealed to us by experts in the field is that all children can achieve some success if they just put in the effort. I thank God, and the experts, for that little pearl of knowledge. Unfortunately, we were not provided with even one strategy that would encourage our kids to put in that effort.
