—Assembly education committee chair Cathy Nolan, a Queens Democrat, officially declared her candidacy for the speakership on Wednesday, touting her record on schools and women’s issues. (She would be the first woman in the role.) Capital’s Josefa Velasquez: http://bit.ly/1EQwIXN
—Although labor groups are expected to influence the race, New York State United Teachers is staying out of it. “This is a matter for the Assembly to decide. We are taking no position,” spokesman Carl Korn told Capital on Wednesday.
Anybody believe NYSUT's claim?
Smart move IMO. They know they'll pick whoever loses and then we'll have even more enemies.
ReplyDeleteUFT/NYSUT are clueless.
ReplyDeleteThey should be endorsing Kathy Nolan, enthusiastically. She has repeatedly spoken up for district schools at the PEP farces.

My principal and I already made a deal that will net me 20K in bonuses with Cuomo's plan. I will be the 2015/2016 most highly effective teacher at my school. Of course I will split the actual bonus 50/50 with him (cash). Awesome.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to hear Randi's Robocall for an assembly speaker that loves the APPR and the CCCS. I'm sitting by phone waiting for her call!
ReplyDeleteThey are doing want the Obama administration wants them to do. In other words, they are doing what they do best, kissing up to Obama and Arne Duncan, staying out of controversy.
