Andrew Cuomo Sticks "A F---ing Spear" Into Chris Christie's Eye

If you haven't been paying attention to the growing Port Authority scandal involving Chris Christie and his PA appointees, it's time you start.

The scandal revolves around Christie's PA appointee closing traffic lanes to the GWB in retaliation for the Democratic mayor of Fort Lee not endorsing Christie's 2013 reelection bid the way many other Dem mayors around the state did.

Dana Rubenstein at Capital NY has a great piece up about the second Christie appointee to resign over the scandal:

Even as Chris Christie struggles to avoid being damaged by a burgeoning scandal at the Port Authority, Andrew Cuomo seems determined to see that it sticks.

Today, the New Jersey governor announced the resignation of Bill Baroni, his deputy executive director at the Port Authority.

Last Friday, David Wildstein, another longtime political ally whom Christie named to be the Port's director of interstate capital projects—even though Wildstein had no infrastructure experience and the position never existed before—also resigned.

...

If the resignations aren't an admission of guilt on the part of Christie, they can at least be read as an attempt to quash the controversy before it balloons into something big enough to damage his 2016 presidential aspirations.

"It’s a big admission that these guys fucked up, and they're trying to contain the problem," said someone who knows both Baroni and Christie.

Christie downplayed the scandal with his usual bluster, saying the whole thing was a joke, but the Wall Street Journal reported this week that Christie called Cuomo to complain about Cuomo's PA appointee, Pat Foye, after Foye was subpoenaed by the NJ legislature in the matter.

Foye told the investigating committee that Christie's appointee, Baroni, was lying about the reason for the traffic lane closures (a "traffic study"), saying the traffic study never actually happened.

Christie said today that the WSJ article about his call to Cuomo was "wrong".

Rubenstein concludes:

Either way, said someone who deals regularly with the Port Authority, Cuomo is out to ensure the Christie bears the full brunt of the fallout from the scandal.

"He just stuck a fucking spear in the eye of Chris Christie," said the source. "Chris Christie said this thing is a joke, it's not for real, but he called Andrew Cuomo about it? It means that Chris Christie was worried. Very embarrassing for Chris Christie."

A couple of weeks ago, Christie was claiming NY Post  Fred Dicker was wrong when he reported that Christie was working with a Westchester pol to unseat Cuomo in 2014.

Gee, I wonder if Cuomo's sticking "a fucking spear" in Christie's eye is retaliation for that alleged Christie malfeasance in Westchester?

And you have to wonder, what will Christie do to retaliate against Cuomo over Sheriff Andy's handling of the GWB traffic lane closure scandal?

Here's hoping both of these guys keep stick metaphoric spears in each other's eyes until neither one sees the inside of the White in 2016.
