Assessing Chris Christie's Performance

A commenter at the NY Times on news that at least one Chris Christie aide was aware of the plan to close GWB traffic lanes to retaliate against the Democratic mayor of Fort Lee and reveled in the pain it caused Fort Lee residents:

Governor Christie makes sure that teachers have a very strict guidelines for performance assessment. How do we performance assess our governor?

An NJ.com editorial assesses Christie's performance for us:

Christie has said that after checking with his staff, he determined that no one from his office was involved in these lane closings. He scoffed at the very idea that it was political retribution against the Fort Lee mayor for refusing to endorse his re-election, and joked that he had moved the traffic cones himself.

His attempts to laugh this off now appear to be dishonest, though we can't yet be sure that he personally knew about the correspondence of one of his top aides. Still, Christie bears responsibility either way. If it turns out he did know, he is obviously lying and unfit for office -- let alone a 2016 presidential run.

And even if he did not, his officials are liars. If Christie can't control them, how can we trust him as a potential future leader of our country?

Indeed.

  1. Christie is preparing himself to be the top liar in the White House if elected president. He wants to beat Nixon's statement "I am not a crook" and Clinton's statement "I did not have a sexual relations with that woman."

Christie's statement will be "I ordered closures of public schools, not GWB traffic lanes".

  2. Christie will be toast with the Republicans.
The conservative regulars, both the officials and the opinion makers will never let go of this ample one.
They'll forget that he was doing a dig against a Dem.
They'll remember that he's buddy buddy with key Dem's like Booker and Obama.
This bridge fiasco gets to leadership, integrity and competency. And this email news of the message from top aide to life-long Christie chum. Cruz, Santorum, Rubio, they have red meat to roast up Christie in 2016: http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2014/01/08/new-jersey-gov-chris-christie-bridge-lane-closure-email/4370139/
    INEFFECTIVE.
We can now start the count up: how many hours since those emails to Wildstein and his staffer has not been dismissed? Or is that the staffer might spill the goods on Christie?
