Charles Barron: I'm Not Going To Vote Against My Heart

So many Assembly Democrats voted for the Cuomo Deform Budget with what they termed "heavy hearts" that Patrick Sullivan subbed them "The Heavy Hearts Club."

But some Dems and many Assembly Republicans stood up, spoke their consciences and voted accordingly.

I've been thanking many of those courageous legislators on Twitter the past few days, but I'd like to take a few blog posts here at Perdido Street School to thank them as well.

Today's post is for Charles Barron:

Assemblyman Charles Barron, a Brooklyn Democrat, was one of the handful in his party to oppose the bill, and he questioned his colleagues who supported it despite their own reservations.

“Too many people voted in the affirmative with heavy hearts, voted in the affirmative with serious concerns,” Barron said. “I’m not going to vote against my heart. … This is not enough for our children."

Thank you, Assemblyman Barron, for standing up for students, teachers and public schools.

  1. It is hard to believe but the band of thieves that rule Albany actually made Charles Barron look good. Who among us could disagree that if the US Attorney arrested every single member of the Assembly and Senate, along with the governor, that we would all be better off individually and collectively?

    1. Judging from your implicit disparagement of the man--"actually made Charles Barron look good"--you obviously don't know much about him. If we had voted for him for governor, we wouldn't be in this mess. He would have looked out for the poor, the vulnerable, the least among us instead of being a slave of the developers and hedge fund sociopaths who are destroying the state, the country, and the world.

    2. I might have gotten it wrong, but isn't Charles Barron the same person who in the past has supported the likes of Robert Mugabe and Muammar Gaddafi? Aren't both responsible for the murder of thousands of innocent people.

Considering how bad Cuomo is I suppose Barron could hardly be worse. At least he had the common sense to oppose this outrageous attack on teachers and public schools.

    3. Barron and his wife have stood up repeatedly against ed deform in all forms. I have loads of video over the years of him confronting the BloomKlein goons. Mugabe looks good compared to Cuomo,

    4. Yeah, regardless of some of his other statements, the guy said all the right things Tuesday night. The same can't be said about many of the speakers. Not only didn't they make much sense, they are cowards and no have business being in the state legislature.

  2. Which Assemblyman called Cuomo a demon in his speech justifying his no vote?!

  3. So is this a done deal or is there another step that can help us before this is finalized?

IF YOU'RE NOT OUTRAGED BY THESE DEMOCRATS WHO VOTED IN FAVOR OF THIS TERRIBLE BUDGET PLAN, THEN WHAT WILL IT TAKE FOR YOU TO TAKE ACTION. VOTE THOSE POLITICIANS OUT OF OFFICE. CALL THEM; WRITE TO THEM AND TELL THEM THAT YOU WILL NO LONGER SUPPORT THEM.

  5. My excel spreadsheet did not transfer well.

Those politicians that voted no are our heroes and those who voted yes are zeroes and must be voted out of office in the next election. Carl Heastie is a back-stabbing, uncle tom, knowing full well that his neighborhood is predominately Black and Hispanics with a high poverty rate. Yet, he is allowing teachers who work in his neighborhood to be hanged by this ridiculous budget.
