I was a HUGE Barney Miller fan. I have read many non-fiction books about police in the United States. Every "cop book" I have ever read always stated that Barney Miller was the most realistic cop show ever made. If you watch those old episodes, it reminded you of the old New York of days gone by. Back when civil servants stuck together and were left to do their jobs without much meddling from higher ups. RIP Abe!
Me too. Big fan. Still love the show and it holds up very, very well. My dad was a police officer and he said Barney Miller was the most realistic of the cop shows too. Most days, crazy shit happened, but it was the kind of crazy shit you saw on Barney Miller, not Hill Street Blues.
