UFT Contract Negotiations Update

Bill de Blasio in an interview with Chris Smith of New York:

It’s obviously incredibly complicated, and there’s a lot on the line, and we want to get it right. So the conversations over the last weeks have been quite good, and substantive, and collegial. But it’s impossible at this moment to determine whether it’s enough to get us done by that point (June 30)."

Collegial and substantive, but not close to any deals - that seems to be the gist.

Has anybody out there heard anything different?

  1. If we get a contract, it will only be because of De Blasio's basic decency and sense of fairness.

After all, Michael Mulgrew stabbed him in the back on the state budget, remaining silent while Cuomo gave away the store to the privatizers.

Mulgrew has shown himself to be, in the most charitable interpretation, a monumentally incompetent negotiator - RttP, APPR, VAM, Common Core, etc. stand as proof - so why should De B give us anything but the back of his hand? What incentive does he have to do right by a union led by a incompetent, duplicitous leadership?

    1. As you always say, Michael, where does the incompetence end and the duplicity begin.

  2. I truly think De Blasio respects the teachers of NYC. He also knows that Mulgrew is a stooge and does not really represent the teachers in the trenches. After all. hardly 20% of active NYC teachers even bothered to vote in the last UFT election. De Blasio knows this is not a vote of confidence for Mulgrew's leadership. I believe the mayor will do the right thing and give us a decent contract. (I am hopeful at least)

    1. We'll see. Mulgrew went out of his way to @#$% with BdB during the primary. Doubtful that's been forgotten.

  3. Any deal that the UFT negotiates will be a disaster for teachers. They have thrown teachers under the bus in the previous contracts. Beware of our incompetent negotiators1

    1. I agree completely. 13 years experience with the UFT shows me this.

  4. I have been teaching for over twenty years. Our UFT stood by and allowed principals from the Principal's Academy to set up, harass, and destroy the rights of senior teachers. By giving up the UFT transfers, we now have ATRS, and teachers who have been having a difficult time
transferring into a healthy teaching environment to teach. Randy sold her soul to the Devil in our past contracts. Will Mulgrew do the same?

  5. How about when the UFT gave away 1 and 1/4 percent on our TDA for not starting school in August and didn't even discuss it with us or when they embedded permanent raises for UFT officials in the contract!

  6. Writing a contract can be difficult sometimes, but is necessary to prevent legal issues. It's so important to get a consultant to help make sure that all of the fine details are accounted for. Before signing any contract you should always read the small print. http://www.affordablecontractsllc.com/2.html
