No Chancellor Pick Announcement Again Today

From Daily Politics:

Mayor-Elect de Blasio is in Connecticut. There are no public events scheduled.

More and more it's looking like come January 2, some of the same demented people running the NYCDOE now will still be in charge.

Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.

  1. Teacher careers ruined, student lives hobbled, entire school communities destroyed by the same people that may end up staying at Tweed. If this happens, there should be a public outroar by the same people whose votes were primarily anti-Bloomberg.

    1. Remember Change We Can Believe In? It surely can happen here. BdB is a politician who made his bones in the Clinton administration. He's about as trustworthy as Obama or Clinton - which is to say, not trustworthy at all.

  2. The minute that happens, I will be changing my party affiliation and will either be an Independent, although that party is just as corrupt, Green or Workers Party. But my days of being a Democrat are over. I understand you can easily do this online.

    1. I'm already out of the Dem party. I still am registered and vote in the primary for some candidates (for example, in the Dem Senate primary, I voted Rush Holt over Cory Booker.) But in the general election, I voted the Repub over Booker. I was hoping he won, too. I'd rather have an honest-and-open wingnut to a shady neo-liberal like Booker.

  3. I wonder if Obama and Cuomo offered support for de Blassio's pre-K plan in return for maintaining the status quo at the DOE, ie. a pro-test chancellor. De Blassio really wants to fulfill his main education objective and may be willing to forget his anti-testing, etc., position.

  4. Dennis Walcott already resigned as chancellor last Friday...so Shael will have to lead things until a new chancellor is in place.

    1. Who knows? He talks a good real reform game, but he's a corporate politician in a corporate political system. His word is worthless.

  7. I guess they can do it on Monday...but that's the last window before school reopening for a new Chance...seems like DeB would have announced , latest, by today, if he was,to announce at all...Seems like Shael (a nightmare) it is...at least short term...not a good sign at all...but he STILL has to answer to DeB...so we get Tweed Lite for 2014...???

    1. I think Shael, short term, yeah. Whatever happened behind the scenes, it's bad.

  8. Its too soon to say what is going on. Emperor Bloomberg is still in control and is pulling strings from the side to try and have things his way. De Blasio may be holding off and delaying until Bloomberg is officially out of offfice too.

Also, lets say he wants Carmen Farina..maybe there is other stuff they are checking into first with Carmen before she becomes the interim chancellor. There would be backlash, maybe they want to make sure all is up and above board.

    1. Nahh - giving too much credit to BdB and Bloomberg. Announcing the chancellor already would not have changed anything about how Bloomberg and his DOE minions handled the last few weeks. They're shredding like Eddie Van Halen, and naming Farina or whomever to be chancellor wouldn't have changed that.

  12. Is Carmen Farina another Beverly Hall and Michelle Rhee? Read "The Carmen Farina Noboldy Knows" on http://dianeravitch.net/about/.

    1. Anybody who managed to get a high profile gig during the BloomKlein Era had to collaborate. There's no doubt in mind about that. And that includes Farina.
