The move to rename the 59th Street Bridge after former NYC Mayor Ed Koch is just, well, stupid.
I can think of a whole bunch of things that you could name after Ed Koch that would be a whole helluva lot more appropriate.
How about the parking lot where Koch crony Donald Manes first tried to kill himself after getting caught in a parking meter scandal?
How about the kitchen where Donald Manes finally did kill himself by plunging a knife through his chest?
How about the electric chair in Sing Sing that Koch has so lustily supported as a deterrent to crime throughout his political career?
How about the graves of innocent Iraqi citizens killed as a result of the Bush/Cheney/neo-con war on Iraq that Koch vocally and enthusiastically supported?
Perhaps a gay bar in Chelsea that refuses to acknowledge itself as a gay bar even though everybody in the world knows it's a gay bar and it would move the cause of gay rights forward mightily to have that bar announce its orientation to the world instead of calling itself the Bess Myerson?
Yeah, I can think of so many other things that ought to be named the "Ed Koch."
But the 59th Street Bridge sure ain't one of them.
